Rovercraft Long Range Parts Assistance

Are you planning a once-in-a-lifetime journey?

Or just an holiday in some more remote regions of the world?

A trip to Northern Africa or the North Cape or a trip around the world?

If so ever thought of breaking one of those vital parts you do NOT carry?

Standard Landrovers carry an average of 18.000 parts, covering some 1000+ pages of genuine parts manual. Nobody can carry any spare, not even those vital ones - even the Camel Trophy convoys have to rely on flown-in spares.

The need for our service came up when similar situations happened to us. Ever tried to explain your needs and your chassis number over a noisy phone line from a public phone in a remote village in Africa? - Boy, this is stuff comedies are written about. And horror stories.

Makes for a great laugh after your return but at that moment it's NO FUN AT ALL.

For our customers and BY PRIOR ARRANGEMENT we will raise hell to get you the part you need so urgently- even if you break down on the other side of nowhere. No surcharge on this except that we will bill you our long distance phone calls and the delivery charges.

No limit geographically or by weight. After all YOU pay for it. This service is not limited to Landrover parts but includes all travel equipment like GPS's or maps.

How does it work? Before you start you submit us all the technical details of your car or cars (yes, it works for groups of up to 6 cars also) including chassis number and modifications carried out as well as the approximate length of your journey. Also useful is an indication of your intended journey route. We make an confidential file of your datas, they will not be revealed to persons outside our company.

To cover our expenses we need some sort of prepayment or guarantee at this moment. This may be in the form of a couple of signed but undated Eurochecks for the guys from Europe or in some other approved form for those from overseas. Easiest is if we can charge your VISA / MC-card if you need us.

If not using credit cards we suggest you make an estimation of how much you think the most expensive part will cost to replace and add 50% to this as an error margin. At the moment we receive the checks we'll send you an OK stating the serial numbers of the cheques you sent. If possible we need the adress of an person you trust at home to get new cheques or cash from in case the bill is higher than you expected.

From this moment on we'll take care of you until you let us know that you're back safely.

In case of a breakdown:

Just call us or sent a fax. At subscrition you get a list of non-public phone and fax emergency numbers where you can reach someone 24/24 hours. Tell him or her your name and the part you need to fix your vehicle, if you need the whole component new or used or just parts of it. Mention an adress the package shell be sent to. This can be an hotel, garage, an embassy, an campground, an police station or similar.

(In hopeless cases give us the exact GPS coordinates in Longitude/Latitude and we'll see what we can do.)

Call again if possible some hours later. Normally at that moment we can give you the first estimation on when to expect the parts.

We guarantee that once we'll have the part it will go off in the next 2 hours. Luxembourg International Airport has connections to any large airport worldwide and we'll deliver the package directly at the airport. If possible our regular business partners will send the package directly to you.

What does this cost?

Good question. This is by no means an insurance nor a gift. And you know that there's nothing like a "free meal" on earth. So expect to pay for it.

If you use credit cards: No charge for our service if you don't need us. But we require you to bring us along a small souvenir from an exotic place, preferably something related to Landrovers or travel (an nice picture we can hang on the wall, an arabic car number plate... No expensive stuff, just something for our visitors to look at, best items with a small story behind them. Let your imagination play.

If you use cheques or money deposit: If all goes well we'll send them back at the end of your travel by an safe postal way. To cover just this and only if you don't use credit cards we must bill you 1.000.-Flux/50.-DM/30.-US-$ at that moment. Sounds fair enough, no?

Our service itself is free. This means we will not make any special surcharge on these orders. However this does not mean you'll get the cheapest part around. At the moment of your emergency call we'll try to get the part localised as fast as possible. This may mean getting the part from an franchised Landrover dealer who will then charge the full list price or having to pay for overnight delivery from Solihull. Or, if not specially instructed, we might even send an checked used part although we prefer sending new ones if we can get them FAST.

I even recall occasions when we stripped some poor soul's car for an vital part (I had to walk for 4 days but that's a long story).

We include the parts we think you will also need like oil seals and small hardware on our own. You don't have to mention this in your call. This is more important than you'd imagine. Picture yourself phoning from the desk of a hot and dusty public store of a village 350 miles south of Timbouctou and surrounded by a friendly crowd of 32 small boys and girls eager to talk to you. Do you imagine you'd really think of that small fitting that usually breaks when dismounting that part? And, yes, we do take the parts back we included on our behalf when you return them unused and in original condition after your travel. However we do not take back the parts you especially ordered.

You will have to pay for these parts plus the express/airmail shipping cost to our shop if we haven't the parts in stock. Also we'll bill you the airfreight to your destination as well as any long distance phone calls we have to make on this, all this at our net cost. A small fee might be applicable if we have to send someone from outside our company to pick up or deliver the package to the airport (about the price of a nice Pizza for the guy or girl).

That's all.

You may ask what's in this for us? Quite simple: If we can help out someone in an difficult situation he will most likely remain a future customer. This pays for itself. And we sell parts- that's our job.

Why do other, bigger companies not offer this service? We can do it for we are enthusiasts. If we had to pay people for working at silly hours in the night or on Sundays we couldn't offer this service for free. And it's a lot of fun, it changes from the daily ratrace.
