90 and 110-owners who drive in warm and hot climates often know the problem of extensive heat inside the cab. This is due to several factors of engine and exhaust heat.
Hot air from the engine flows under the car and gets drawn into the cab through every unsealed opening in the floor. And there are many of them. You don't believe me? Get your hand under the left seat and feel the air coming up!
The exhaust system running just below doesn't help much either. This problem is more prevalent on V-8's than on the cooler running TDI's.
How to solve this? Exhaust heat is easiest tackled. You must wrap the exhaust with insulation material from the downpipe on and up to the silencer. Obviously you need special material to do this and we can provide it. It comes in 5-meters-rolls (15 feet) by 5cm (2") and you will need 1 to 2 rolls for this (we recommend 2 rolls).
A further way of reducing this heat is to cover the floor with some serious, flame retardent and waterproof mats. We have ready-cut mats for 90's and 110's made out of coconut fibers. They take the abuse very well, insulate good, are resistant to water, mud, pressure washable and exceptionally heavy (more than an inch thick). They reduce noise also by about 4 decibel. Same material mats for loadspace also available.
Their disadvantages: They do not let water out. So you have to take them out from time to time to let the humidity out. This is not a big problem on Landrovers with their aluminium floor panels. Another disadvantage is their price. They are much more expensive than those rubber mats from the superstore. But they are made to take abuse and will last a long time.
Uncut mats also available on request.
